EPIC Camp speech

Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru in collaboration with Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor, Rotary Kolar Central, and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, successfully launched the EPIC (Epilepsy Prevention and Integrated Care) program. This groundbreaking initiative aimed to reach and support individuals suffering from epilepsy through early detection and effective disease management.

The EPIC program kicked off with its first screening camp on June 29, 2024, at the PHC Center in Kolar. Esteemed neurologists and neurosurgeons from Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru conducted the camp, offering free screenings to the community. Patients identified with epilepsy were referred to Aster Whitefield Hospital for further evaluation and treatment at no cost. The program particularly focused on lower to middle socio-economic groups, where awareness and access to proper diagnosis and treatment are often limited.

“This initiative is a significant step towards reducing the burden of epilepsy in our community,” said Prof. Dr. Satish Rudrappa, Group Director and Lead Consultant at Aster International Institute of Neurosciences; Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru. “Through early detection and comprehensive care, we aimed to transform lives. I was honored to lead this project and to provide pro bono surgeries through my NGO, SUKRIYA.”

Dr. Jagdeesh M., District Health Officer, emphasized the importance of the program, stating, “The EPIC program was a beacon of hope for those affected by epilepsy. Our goal was to reach as many individuals as possible and ensure they received the care they needed. We were committed to working closely with Aster Whitefield Hospital and other partners to make this initiative a success.”

Dr. NC Narayanswamy from PHC, Kolar, added, “The collaboration with Aster Whitefield Hospital and Rotary clubs was invaluable in organizing this camp and identifying patients. Together, we made a significant impact on the health and well-being of our community.”

The EPIC program signifies a collaborative effort between Aster Whitefield Hospital, Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor, Rotary Kolar Central, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, and Prof. Dr. Satish Rudrappa’s NGO SUKRIYA. This collective approach ensures a comprehensive program addressing the various aspects of epilepsy management – from early detection to treatment and long-term care.
