Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala, one of Asia’s leading weight-loss & GI surgeons, was recently felicitated with the prestigious IFSO Worldwide Educator Award 2019 at the ongoing 24th IFSO World Congress at Madrid, Spain. Dr. Lakdawala received the award due to his notable efforts in creating awareness, spreading knowledge, imparting surgical training and establishing universal standards of care for the treatment of individuals suffering from obesity, worldwide.

Dr. Lakdawala was felicitated with the award at the Presendential Dinner on 4th September 2019. He was presented with the award by the President of IFSO World Congress, Prof. Antonio Torres; COO of IFSO World Congress, Dr. Manuela Mazzarella and Head Nominating Committee & Past-President of IFSO World Congress, Dr. Natan Zundel.

The award comes in, a few weeks after Dr. Lakdawala became the first to receive Professor Emeritus status at BYL Nair Hospital, Mumbai.

ABOUT IFSO

The International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) is a Federation composed of national associations of bariatric surgeons and Integrated Health professionals formed in 1995 in Stockholm. Currently, there are 64 official member societies of IFSO. There are also individual members from countries that thus far have not formed a national association.

IFSO is a scientific organization that brings together surgeons and integrated health professionals, such as nurse, practitioners, dieticians, nutritionists, psychologists, internists and anesthesiologists, involved in the treatment of morbidly obese patients.
