The novel initiative is backed by mobile medical care units to conduct advanced screening for NCDs free of cost across geographies

Aiming to reach out to the less-privileged communities at grassroots level, India’s leading hospital group Apollo Hospitals and consumer electronics giant Samsung India have joined hands to jointly run mobile medical care units to screen large sections of the population for non-communicable diseases.

“We are extremely happy and delighted to be part of this initiative of Samsung India. As hospitals we are constantly looking to reach out to people for their healthcare requirements. It is encouraging to see that corporates like Samsung are also taking a step ahead in bridging the healthcare gap, especially at the grassroot level. We hope to make it a major success and create a new model of healthcare delivery for far flung rural areas,” said Dr Hariprasad, President, Apollo Hospitals.

The Samsung-Apollo Mobile Medical Care Unit Programme will be executed with the operation of mobile medical care units (buses) fully loaded with the screening technology including ECG, Stress Test, Echocardiogram, Ultrasound, Mammogram, Pap Smear and blood sample collection.

These screening procedures performed in remote locations will be processed and reported in Apollo Hospitals. This is enabled by leveraging technology and bridging the gap between large hospitals located in urban areas and the people living in remote rural areas.

The programme will be launched in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

NCDs are responsible for over 50% of deaths and this is increasing at a rapid rate. If this continues India will not have sufficient resources to treat the NCD affected population.
