During COVID, Japan govt donated 300 units of Nihon Kohden NKV 550U high-end ventilators to state government hospitals across several regions, including West Bengal, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha, through the Indian government. Such partnerships underscore the significance of collaboration between governmental bodies and private entities in addressing public health emergencies and enhancing healthcare infrastructure.

 Q.3 How robust and effective is Nihon Kohen’s after-sales service in India and around the world? What new measures have been undertaken to make it timelier and hassle free?

“In terms of new innovations for the Indian healthcare market, Nihon Kohden has made significant strides, particularly with our entry into the ventilator business. Our NKV 550 and NKV 440 Ventilator Systems represent cutting-edge advancements in respiratory care.

These ventilator systems are designed to cater to a wide range of patients, from neonates to adults, making them highly versatile and adaptable to diverse healthcare settings. One of the standout features of our ventilators is the intuitive and customizable app-based platform. This platform empowers clinicians with the ability to tailor lung protective strategies according to individual patient needs, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Moreover, our ventilators offer seamless transitions between invasive, non-invasive ventilation, and high-flow oxygen therapy within a single device. This not only enhances patient care by providing comprehensive respiratory support but also contributes to cost savings for hospitals and reduces the workload for clinicians.

 Q5. What is the current ratio of Nihon Kohen’s imported medical equipment to that made in India? In what ways does Nihon Kohden help India become a manufacturing powerhouse?

“Currently, we are importing equipment from Japan and the USA. However, keeping in mind the Make In India initiative, Nihon Kohden India has established an 8,900-square-meter factory on 16,135 square meters of land at MET City in the Jhajjar district of Haryana. This facility is nearly four times larger than Nihon Kohden’s existing facility in Gujarat. We are very pleased to announce the opening of our new hematology analyzer reagent factory. This facility marks an important milestone in our commitment to growing our business in India and positions Nihon Kohden well to achieve our vision for India – to be a trusted partner and provider to improve healthcare in the country.”

Q6 .which is the most prominent products for you which biggest room to expand ? Additionally, could you elaborate on the regulatory challenges facing the medical device sector in India?”

We see the ventilator market as having large potential to grow within the medical device sector. Particularly given the heightened global demand and focus on respiratory health, particularly in the Indian market because of lifestyle and climate change conditions. Additionally, the aging population and rising prevalence of respiratory diseases further contribute to the sustained demand for ventilators within India. Furthermore, government initiatives aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and affordability, such as the Ayushman Bharat scheme, are expected to drive the demand for medical devices, including ventilators, within India.
